TUESDAY TRIBUTE: CLINT EASTWOOD

Clint Eastwood (photo from Listal.com)

Perhaps one of the most impressive men in film history, Clint Eastwood is a symbol of American culture. Eastwood has appeared as an actor in over 60 films. He has over 30 directorial efforts. He’s amassed 4 Academy Awards, 3 Golden Globes, and dozens of other recognitions and nominations for his acting, directing, producing, and score compositions. As the icon of macho movie stars, Eastwood was and still is (even at 82) considered a heart throb. Known for his work in westerns, Eastwood still looked just as suave in a t-shirt, black jeans, high white socks, and a pair of dapper brogues. They just don’t make ’em like they used to.

TUESDAY TRIBUTE: DANIEL PLAINVIEW

Daniel Day-Lewis as Daniel Plainview in There Will be Blood (photo from imdb.com)

There Will be Blood tells the story of a gold miner-turned-oilman on a ruthless quest for wealth during Southern California’s oil boom in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and is named one of the best films of the first decade of the 21st century. Daniel Day-Lewis won six Best Actor awards including an Oscar and a Golden Globe for his performance as Daniel Plainview. Plainview is in many ways a stereotypical representation of the robber baron. Ruthless, unabashedly greedy and not above lying to get what he wants. Yet despite these negative qualities he is shown to be hard working, pragmatic and somewhat of an honorable man. Day-Lewis’ acting drives the story in There Will be Blood generating a versatile character all the while wearing an old west cowboy hat and a rugged pair of boots.
